During 2011-12, we visited some of the world’s richest design capitals, holding live tournaments with over 150 talented creative pros. On Friday, November 16th, 35 of them converged on the Lower Eastside to compete in our Global Championship 2012. This playful new experiment featured live creativity fueled by audience-generated ideas.
We are proud to announce that the 2012 Global Championship title was awarded to the Tokyo 2D/3D competition team Takumi Yoza & Taiyo Yamamoto, and to New York's motion/animation competitor Stu Chudy!
The Jury determined the champions based on the competitors' adherence to the brief, strength of concept, originality, aesthetic, and technique.
Each member of the winning 2D/3D team and the motion/animation champ received a HP DreamColor Display, and each of the 2D/3D and motion/animation runners-up received a HP IPS Monitor.
This year, we have had a special audience design contest in collaboration with charity: water and sponsored by Adobe to drive awareness for an important problem: access to clean water for all.
Right now, one billion people don’t have access to clean drinking water. On mycharity: water, you can run, bike, or give up birthday presents to raise money to fund water projects for communities in need, and 100% of all donations directly funds water projects. Every dollar donation is linked to a water project and proved with photos and GPS. Now, charity: water seeks the help of the Cut&Paste design community for fresh ideas.
The Challenge: In a 15-minute offstage round, sketch a graphic that represents an activity you would do to raise money for clean water using the iPad and Adobe Ideas app, provided at Cut&Paste. The winner from all global entries receives the opportunity to work on a charity: water campaign. Click for more details and take a look at some designs from Global Champs 2012:
To remember the night, HP hosted a creative photo booth. While getting their exclusive Global Champs photo, they were able to enter to win a 24” Performance Display! Check out these fun photos from our Global Champs audience:
The Lower Eastside Girls Club provides a place where girls and young women can grow, learn, have fun, and develop the ability to make a difference in the world.
In an effort to support their mission, Cut&Paste will be donating 50% of all Global Champs ticket sales. These donations will go directly to the development of the design studio.
